Smyle Success Creates Merger

Feb 2007

Even though the two companies have effectively been trading as one offering in the marketplace for the last three years, the directors of Smyle Productions and Smyle Events announced their plans to formally merge the two companies at their recent AGM.

Matt Margetson, the Productions Director, set up Smyle Productions in 1994 and was joined by Operations Director Geoff Barrow in 1999. They have built up an impressive technical team supported by an extensive range of production equipment including the most up-to-date technology available in the industry.

Smyle Events, voted ‘Best New Company’ in 2004, was set up by Rick Stainton, Events Director, in partnership with the existing production company. The team has focused on informing the marketplace of its innovative event management solutions with all production designs, equipment & expertise delivered in-house.

This approach has successfully competed against a trend amongst some established event companies for referring their production requirements to third parties, whilst claiming to be an integrated entity with ‘production in-house’.

Rick Stainton said of the merger, “The partnership’s dramatic growth over the last few years has been fuelled by the market’s increasing recognition of a ‘broker’ policy rife within the industry – Smyle demonstrates a more streamlined delivery of design and quality whilst adopting an open book pricing system that avoids hidden mark ups of key third party suppliers. Hence clients benefit from an undiluted interpretation of their objectives by a completely dedicated management team at a competitive price.”

Smyle’s principal business orientates around designing and producing product launches, conferences and celebratory events in the UK and overseas, as well as a number of high profile private events. Its strong corporate client base includes BlackBerry, BMW, Bloomberg, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Cisco, Ferrari, Asda, Guards Polo Club and Capita.

The two companies achieved a combined turnover of £4million in 2006, up from £1.5 million in 2005. The newly merged team is expecting the deal to be completed by the end of March and is also currently sourcing a suitable site to relocate into one Smyle HQ.
