“I was confident that we made the right decision to work with Smyle all those months ago and that confidence was boosted week by week and ultimately rewarded by your outstanding contribution to the success of the two marquee-based events.  Your team were a delight to work with and I was never left feeling an amateur amongst such professional company.  Above all, I really appreciated the very open and friendly approach of your team when being asked inane questions by me while they usually had better things to be doing. We could not have done it without their involvement and contribution.  The lighting and sound systems were truly amazing and everyone in the audience felt they had been to something very special indeed.”

reason / objective

Smyle was approached to design and produce a 2 day event to celebrate the Marshall Group’s centenary.  The 1st day to incorporate a dinner for 700 guests , which would also act as a fundraiser for the Princes Trust, the 2nd for 1500 guests to celebrate the achievement with employee’s. Both events were to be held beside the main runway of the Marshall’s Airport in Cambridge.

The event required integrated solutions of filming pre-event that would communicate the company’s history & goals from the first 100 years into the next.  The entire project needed to inspire colleagues and install a sense of pride throughout the community, workforce and friends of the Marshall Group.

concept / solution

Working closely with the Marshall Group to review company  archive , library  footage  and sourcing news footage from national broadcasters, Smyle‘s film department created 5 videos that demonstrated The Marshall Group’s achievements over the last century, their integration into the community, training & development  and their vision for the future.

The production set was designed with all of these elements in mind using a multitude of different platforms including an LED video back wall of the set to communicate the media and promote the visual effect. This culminated with the final video being designed to combine with a fantastic pyrotechnic display.

Over £140,000 was raised on the 1st night for The Princes Trust in an evening that included entertainment provided by Jamie Cullum.
Natasha Kaplinsky hosted the 2nd evening’s entertainment utilising a script written by Smyle and post dinner performances which included Diversity with Peter Dixon of X factor fame providing the Voice of God!
