Robin Gibb, Ambassador – The Outward Bound Trust

reason / objective

The Outward Bound Trust approached Smyle to produce a gala dinner for 500 guests at Battersea Evolution. Robin Gibb, an ambassador of the Trust, had curated a line up for the event to celebrate 50 years of The Bee Gees including Bill Wymans Rhythm Kings and a number of high profile solo artists. Smyle were asked to oversee the event management, production, filming including the stage show production.

concept / solution

Smyle wanted to provide a stage set that was fitting to the artists that would be performing at the evening. The set design included a 7m x 3m Barco S-lite LED screen plus 4 separate 1.8m x 4m drops of Stealth provided by XL Video. Battersea Evolution had some useful in house kit that we could use which meant that much of the basic work was already completed – such as the main bar, starcloth ceiling, pin spots, generic wash lighting and a small sound system in the reception area. This allowed Smyle to focus the budget on the impact on arrival that the client so wanted. A 30m x 3m screen edge blended 6 HD projector screen was installed into the reception area with bespoke graphics for Outward Bound and the event sponsor Sunseeker. At the venues entrance two raised plinths were built, one to display the 1970 Sunseeker and the second for the 2008 Aston Martin Vantage used in the new James Bond film Quantum of Solace.
In addition Smyle oversaw the guest arrival procedure, traffic management and venue security to ensure the event ran as seamlessly as possible. Finally the stage and talent management was looked after by Smyle to provide a seamless live show with slick backstage management ensuring the artists were happy and their associated staff looked after.
