reason / objective

Smyle was asked to create a flowing, feminine, soft edged style background for the large screens at the awards ceremony held in London's Old Billingsgate venue. It had to allow for live camera feeds, Nomination photos, videos and text to be animated within it. The Smyle team designed a flowing silk animation that gave a continuously moving background and also allowed for the chosen elements to be animated onto the screen via a number of flowing wipes and dissolves.

concept / solution

To create the realistic images that looked like silk billowing in the wind was a very time consuming process. The team used Adobe After Effects and Shake to create the images. It took our editor three days to produce the basic silks and then additional edit time was used to composite the nomination videos, pictures, text and additional colours of silks to the final pieces.

The final compositions were created, exported and projected in HDV and played from a computer playout system.
