"Thanks for all your hard work and for believing in us. I know we can be demanding, but I think you can understand why and the breathtaking results were proof that it was all worth it!

Judging by the overwhelming response we have had and the amount of money we managed to raise for TCT you should be very proud of yourselves. It was an absolute pleasure working with you guys"

reason / objective

A Gala Dinner hosted by Frank Lampard in honour of The Teenage Cancer Trust to raise both funds and awareness, to celebrate the charities achievements to date & to look to the development and future of the Charity.

concept / solution

The committee of the charity, which included Roger Daltrey, Karen Millen, Alan Curbishley and of course Frank Lampard, decided upon a theme of a Winter Wonderland for the event.

Smyle’s approach had to differentiate this special event from anything the guests may have seen before, whilst ensuring empathy to the cause.

Smyle created two separate areas within Old Billingsgate, one for the drinks reception upon arrival, and later for dancing, the second section being used for the dining area.

As guests entered they were met by a snow drenched frontage ; a Snow King and his frosted-girls welcomed VIPs and distributed Champagne. An interactive floor created the entrance walkway, complete with an iced lake effect that seemingly cracked as guests stepped onto it!

Two bars, one mirrored bar and one ice bar – in keeping with the clean, cold winter effects, kept guests suitably lubricated throughout the evening!

Canopied igloos with white furniture created a ‘chill-out’ area, a mirrored dance floor, snow covered Narnia-esque trees spread throughout the dance area and two huge circular projection screens set over the DJ booth all combined to complete the look.

As dinner was called, a choreographed light and sound show accompanied the white dividing drape being raised revealing the magnificent dining area.

A huge ‘rock n roll’ stage set had been built to accommodate not only the speeches, auction and raffle but also a 45 minute live set from UB40.

Following dinner, attention turned to the main focus of the evening. An auction and raffle, hosted by Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys, raised over £600,000!

This was followed by an impassioned and emotional speech from host Frank Lampard on his involvement and vision for the charity. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Attention was then switched to UB40’s live set followed by DJs into the early hours with a fitting finale of a ‘Snow Show’ being performed by a Yeti and Snow themed performers!
